[2024: Three Regional Platforms for Disaster Risk Reduction](/implementing-sendai-framework/regional-platforms)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
From October to November, the Asia Pacific, Africa and Europe and Central Asia regional platforms will be held.
These are a key opportunity to tackle trans-boundary issues around disaster prevention and preparedness, provide leadership and direction, and propose relevant solutions to address disaster risk and to build the resilience of communities and nations.
Building on these, the Eighth session of the [Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (GP2025) will be held in June 2025](https://www.undrr.org/event/eighth-session-global-platform-disaster-risk-reduction-gp2025).

The result of **the slow pace of action** is seen in the increasing impact of disasters

From managing disasters to managing risk and safeguarding developmentÂ
----------------------------------------------------------------------
We envision a world where disasters no longer threaten the well-being of people and the future of the planet. Sustainable development and the 2030 Agenda cannot be achieved without working towards building resilience.

UNDRR has been tasked to support the implementation, follow-up and review of the Sendai Framework and coordinates action within the UN system around disaster risk reduction to make this happen.
The interactions between climate change trends, ecosystem fragility, disease outbreaks, rapid unplanned urbanization, mass displacement and geopolitical instability, fuelled by the interconnectivity of communications, trade, financial systems and politics, mean that shocks, stresses, and crises reverberate globally.
Engage with UNDRR by collaborating across sectors to promote resilience and risk-informed decision-making, aligning with global frameworks.

It pays to invest in DRR
------------------------
**1.5 a day**
The number of disaster events is projected to reach 560 a year – or 1.5 disasters a day – by 2030
**$1 into $4**
In low- and middle-income countries, investing in more resilient infrastructure yields US $4 in benefit for each $1 invested
**$80 billion**
Mangrove forests provide more than US $80 billion per year in avoided losses from coastal flooding
**30%**
Just 24 hours warning of a coming storm or heat wave can cut the ensuing damage by 30 percent
